From saving on energy bills to reducing emissions, there are many reasons why homeowners are switching to an air source heat pump to warm their homes. Want to find out more? Read on for some of the key benefits of air source heat pumps…
1. Renewable energy
One of the main air source heat pump benefits is their low production of carbon emissions. Air source heat pumps are classed as a form of renewable energy because they generate heat using the air outside your home, rather than by burning fuels with harmful emissions. Plus, if your electricity comes from a 100% renewable source, your heat pump will reach zero carbon emissions.
2. Reduced energy bill costs
Air source heat pumps have a considerably high coefficient of performance (COP). This measures the efficiency of a heat pump by calculating the rate of useful heat it generates compared to the overall amount of energy used. The average COP of an air source heat pump is approximately 2.5 to 3. This means that for every 1 kWh of heat produced by a boiler, air source heat pumps produce 3 kWh, potentially lowering your annual energy usage (and bill!) by up to a third.
3. Consistent temperature
Because they reach high temperatures so quickly, it can be difficult to keep your home at a consistent temperature with a boiler. The result is flicking them on and off throughout the day, as your home’s temperature fluctuates between too cold and too hot. Meanwhile, air source heat pumps can simply be kept on all the time. They heat your home gradually, providing more consistent warmth over a longer period.
4. Easy to install
Air source heat pumps are far easier to install than their ground source counterparts, as there’s no digging required. One of the best air source heat pump benefits is that, in some cases, installation can take just two days. However, this will vary depending on the size and complexity of the installation, so you should discuss this with your air source heat pump installer beforehand.
5. Long lifespan
There are many air source heat pump benefits to keep your heating cost-effective. One of these is the long lifespan you can expect from your heat pump. As long as your heat pump is maintained sufficiently, it can last between 15-20 years, with the most modern heat pumps potentially lasting up to 25 years.
6. Costs can be offset
Whilst the installation costs might initially appear high, one of the major benefits of air source heat pumps is that you can access a grant to drastically reduce the price. Air-to-water heat pumps heat both your rooms and your water, making them eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Grant. With this grant, you’ll receive £5,000 off the installation cost of your air source heat pump.
Save the environment and your energy bills with air source heat pumps
If you’re eco-conscious or just want to make a saving on your heating costs, the benefits of air source heat pumps are clear.
