Heating is a must-have for practically every business, allowing you to provide comfortable working conditions for your staff. It’s important to get the best heating system for your requirements, to make sure you can provide those conditions in the most efficient way possible.
In this post, we’ll look at four types of commercial heating system and what kind of environment they’re best suited to.
1. Radiant heating
Probably the form of heating most people are familiar with, radiant heating works by radiating heat from hot surfaces. It’s used in homes up and down the country, but also in a number of offices and other workspaces.
As well as radiators, radiant heat can be provided through radiant tubes or plaque heaters. It’s an effective option in smaller commercial spaces, where the number and size of radiators, tubers or plaques can be kept in proportion to the space being heated.
Because radiant heat warms up objects rather than the air itself, it’s a good way to minimise heat loss in areas where doors are continuously opened. However, if the space is too big, or large equipment obstructs the source of heat, radiant heat won’t be suitable.
2. Warm air systems
Another option is warm air heating. This type of heating system draws air across a heat exchanger to warm the air, before distributing it across your commercial space. The result is a consistent temperature throughout your space, although the warm air can escape through open doors or windows.
Warm air heaters can be powered by electric, hot water or a fuel burner. They can also be wall-mounted, freestanding or even suspended on the ceiling, making them relatively flexible depending on the layout of your site.
3. Air rotation
Working in the same way as warm air heaters, air rotation systems have the addition of axial fans to move air through larger spaces. Warm air is distributed throughout the space at a low speed to create a level temperature, ideal for warehouses where frost and condensation need to be avoided.
Because they use axial fans to circulate air, there’s no need for complex duct systems to transfer heat around a building.
4. Destratification heating
Also similar to warm air heating, destratification systems prevent heat from being wasted in your commercial roof space. As heat naturally rises, destratification fans essentially transfer warm air from roof spaces back to the office or warehouse that is being used. The result is a more efficient system that keeps warm air where it’s needed.
Choosing the best heating system for your commercial site
At COA Building Services, we understand that no two commercial sites are the same. The heating requirements of a large warehouse or open-doored truckyard will be completely different to those of a small office or multi-let premises.
That’s why we’re committed to helping businesses of all shapes and sizes choose the best heating system for them. With expertise across the board, we can advise on a commercial heating system that’s safe, efficient and cost-effective for your requirements then install and maintain it to the highest standards.
